Cait Whittard is grateful she has the chance to represent her country at the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23, and Under 19 Championships (Mega Worlds) Aug. 18-25 in St. Catharines.
“Very few have the opportunity to race where they took their very first rowing strokes,” the 19-year-old St. Catharines native said. “Personally, I see this is an opportunity to give back to all my family and friends who have supported me through rowing but also all the sports growing up. Now they have the opportunity to watch me race in person for my country and see where everything they have done for me has got me to.”

Andrew Burciul found himself in the winner’s circle for the first time this year Wednesday at Twenty Valley.
The 16-year-old Thorold resident fired a 70 to capture top spot in the U17/U19 boys division on the fifth stop of the season on the Niagara District Junior Golf Tour.
“It feels great. I haven’t been playing the best this year but my game is starting to come along the last couple of weeks, which is good,” said Burciul, who attends Denis Morris.

TJ Woods finished his first year of high school with three Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations’ medals on his resume.
The Grade 9 student at Denis Morris won a silver medal in novice boys cross country in the fall and this spring he captured a provincial gold medal in the novice boys 1,500 metres and a bronze in the 800 metres.
The 15-year-old Thorold resident went into his first year of high school confident in his abilities but not overconfident.

The Denis Morris Reds boys field lacrosse team will host next year’s Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA Festival as the reigning OFSAA bronze medalists.
The Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association champions earned that distinction Thursday in Georgetown with a 7-6 victory over Christ the King in the bronze medal game. Scoring for the Reds in the game were Mason Elliott with a hat trick, Easton Lynds with two goals and single tallies from Liam Larocque and Cody Rudderham.
