Cole Kelly is a relative newcomer to the court. The 17-year-old, Grade 12 student grew up playing hockey and is also a speedy wide receiver in football.
Kelly only began playing organized basketball two years ago but you would never know it by his performance Wednesday.
Kelly netted 11 points and was solid on defence as the Denis Morris Reds defeated the Port Colborne Blue Bears 80-35 in an opening round game at the 68th Annual Welland Tribune Basketball Tournament.

Kennady Forster was in her happy place Tuesday afternoon on the Denis Morris field.
The Grade 12 student at Denis Morris was taking part in the first-ever week of action of the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association’s girls flag football league.
Forster has a history of playing tackle football but had to give up the sport because of concussion issues. Instead of suiting up for the Denis Morris boys team, she is now helping out with the team.

The Niagara Region will be well represented at the London 2024 Ontario Summer Games which begin Thursday night with the opening ceremonies at Western Alumni Stadium.
Team Niagara is composed of more than 100 athletes and coaches representing the region in eight sports at the event which will feature 3,500 participants (athletes, coaches and officials), with most athletes ranging in age from 12 to 18 years old. The Games run Aug. 1-4 at various locations in London.

Cait Whittard is grateful she has the chance to represent her country at the 2024 World Rowing Senior, Under 23, and Under 19 Championships (Mega Worlds) Aug. 18-25 in St. Catharines.
“Very few have the opportunity to race where they took their very first rowing strokes,” the 19-year-old St. Catharines native said. “Personally, I see this is an opportunity to give back to all my family and friends who have supported me through rowing but also all the sports growing up. Now they have the opportunity to watch me race in person for my country and see where everything they have done for me has got me to.”
