The Denis Morris Reds’ quest for a second straight Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association boys AAA field lacrosse title was nearly derailed by the Zone 4 champion Sir Winston Churchill Bulldogs this week.
The Reds had built a commanding 6-1 lead over the Bulldogs in the final before Churchill roared back to tie the game at 6-6. Alex Forest’s third goal of the game with 1:36 left on the clock allowed the Reds to escape with the win and advance to the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations Festival June 5-6 in Georgetown.

It is clearly too early to mention the word dynasty but the Denis Morris Reds boys field lacrosse team certainly appears to be headed in that direction.
Last year’s Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association AAA champions and sixth-place finishers at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships flexed their muscles Wednesday afternoon with a 14-1 victory over the host Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association championship game.

Candelaria Gras is serving notice she will be a force to reckoned with this spring at upcoming high school track and field meets.
Competing at the High Octane track and field meet Friday at the Niagara Olympic Club, the Grade 9 student at Denis Morris lapped all but two members of the field in winning the combined novice/junior girls 3,000-metre event.
“My goals are to hopefully get to OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) and I think that is everyone’s goal but I also want to PB (personal best) in my 3K,” she said. “I am really focusing on doing well in the 3K.”

The Denis Morris Reds boys field lacrosse team putting the finishing touches on an undefeated Niagara Catholic Athletic Association regular season in impressive fashion Tuesday at Notre Dame.
The defending Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association AAA champions and sixth-place finishers last year at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations championships defeated Holy Cross 17-1 and Blessed Trinity 19-1.
