Maltby goes out in style

dmchs bpsportsniagra 042822Dylan Maltby’s final night of high school basketball was a memorable one.

The 18-year-old, Grade 12B student at Denis Morris was named Player of the Game as Team North defeated Team South 77-61 in the Niagara Region Senior Boys All-Star Basketball Top 40 game at Governor Simcoe Thursday night.

“It was nice seeing people from other teams I’ve played against come together,” Maltby said. “I even felt that with the other team. We were going back and forth laughing.

Maltby leads Reds to consolation crown

bpsportsniagara dmchs 04012022Dylan Maltby could not have scripted a more appropriate denouement to his high school basketball career.

The 18-year-old, Grade 12B student poured in a tournament-high 38 points to lead the Denis Morris Reds to a 78-54 win over the Blessed Trinity Thunder in the senior consolation championship at the BSPN Best of Niagara Boys Basketball Tournament Friday at the St. Catharines Collegiate.

“It feels so great,” Maltby said. “I could not have asked for a better way for it to end.”

Ukiomogbe leads Reds into BPSN consolation finals

BP Sports Niagara imageWhen Mike Ukiomogbe’s family emigrated to Canada from Nigeria in 2015, he spoke very little English.

The Grade 11 student at Denis Morris made himself a home in his new country by frequenting outdoor basketball courts in Toronto and Burlington before his family settled in St. Catharines.

“Basketball was my way to make friends and that is the way I communicated with people,” the 16-year-old said Wednesday, after helping the Denis Morris Reds defeat the Saint Paul Patriots 74-45 in the consolation semifinals of the BPSN Best of Niagara Boys Basketball Tournament.
